WHY WE NEED EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE FACE OF ECONOMIC MELTDOWN

Nothing happens without a cause and effect. Every action is trailed with a chain of reactions that may leave a lasting impression or pressure in a man’s body fluids. Emotional Intelligence has been a balancing tool to stem the tide of the outburst of different shades of our feelings. Our ability to maintain proper emotions and understand other people’s ways of reactions can determine the effects of the decisions we make. Life stresses and chaos can be escalated or saved in a match-stick and bowl-of-water ding-dong that can be undone if we make a firm control of our emotions. We are all born with different sensations and emotions embedded in our DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Everyone can be jealous, furious, voracious, aggressive, horrified, frustrated, bored, homesick, contemptuous, anxious, embarrassed, grievous, doubtful, flinching and filching; but we can all make ourselves acceptable, compassionate, forgiving, loving, pleasurable, long-suffering, hopeful, euphoric and grateful if we can direct the right signals in our emotions. These are some of these reasons we need to be more sensitive to our emotions in times

YOU NEED TO WATCH YOUR EGO
In a time like this, if we cannot control our pride, we may end up taking decisions that can leave a bitter taste in our mouth. A man in an office who is driven by ego can buy things he doesn’t need only to impress his colleagues in spite of cash crunch that is etching deeper in our homes. We need to buy things we really need and make judicious judgement before opting for our choices.

STUDENTS NEED TO WATCH THE WAY THEY SPEND THEIR TIME AND MONEY
Students are usually carried away or driven by fads or vogue. Students need to cut their expenses by not allowing their emotions drive them towards cooking up lies to gain more income and excessive thirst for quick riches. Though there is dignity in hard-work, the ‘efikos’ (serious students) need to watch the time they spend reading. Spending sleepless nights without rest can cause stress and hamper healthy living. Study not to impress or oppress anyone. Read productively!

YOU NEED TO WATCH YOUR ANGER
Everyone needs to be respected. Uncontrolled emotions like anger can land us in trouble. We may spend or waste our resources on a brawl that can be avoided if we can manage our anger. An act of envy can explode into a fight that can land you in the police custody. Husbands and wives can reduce the running cost of their daily endeavours if they can avoid bitterness that can ensue. Everyone needs to avoid trouble. A stitch in time can save everything.

LEADERS NEED TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE
Leaders often fail to show empathy through their actions. Everyone needs to feel considered and appreciated. A manager needs to show he understands the plight of his subordinates. This will boost their morale and level of loyalty. Leaders in the nation, in times like this, need to avoid living a life of ostentation that we make the citizens feel they are not true to the collective cause of making their lives better. Leaders should make a blue print and well-thought out policies that can revamp the degrading indices of the nation’s economy. Leaders need to map out clear strategies and road map that can ascertain the economic hardship is reduced to a negligible extent. Leaders should use their position to lighten up the faces of people they are leading and not subvert their sense of being.

CITIZENS NEED TO GUARD AGAINST THEIR EMOTIONAL EXCESSES
Everyone should not live in fantasies of an instant change or remedy to the economic recession. They should not heap all their blames on those that are at the hems of affairs. Everyone needs to play a part. The man at the peak of the nation cannot be everywhere at the same time. Individual efforts and attitudinal change can make a whole lot of impact. If we all stay clear of things that can drag our nation backward by cutting our excessive expectations and demands, the entire polity may not be heated up. We should air our grievances through a peaceful platform and not propel our interests beyond limits.
